• I offer individual therapy for adults. Treatment issues include depression, anxiety, sexual self-esteem and identity, gender identity and gender complexity, and difficulties arising from adjustment to significant life changes including divorce, loss of a loved one, and traumatic stress.

General office hours are Monday to Thursday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday. Evening appointments are limited. Appointments are not available on the weekend.

  • In general I use a combination of cognitive restructuring, energy psychology protocols, and occasional clinical hypnosis. Your session will be devised specifically for you and will incorporate a number of different techniques and traditions. As part of this, you may be asked to do assignments or to participate in a behavioral modification plan. You always have the right to refuse to participate in any activity or plan; however, please be willing to talk about your feelings and your emotional responses in order for therapy to be helpful.

  • I am fluent enough in American Sign Language that interpreters are not necessary for appointments. I do my best to sign in structured ASL but feel most fluent with PSE.

I first started learning ASL as an undergraduate student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1986. I petitioned for ASL to meet my foreign language requirement for graduation and won! You may remember that 1986 saw an uprising at Gallaudet and many campuses around the nation saw an increase in hearing students wanting to learn sign.

My first teacher was a CODA named Barbara Northrup. She had a ‘no voice’ policy for her classes from the very first day! Her mother, Zelma, was Deaf and blind from usher’s syndrome and sometimes she helped teach the class. What a wonderful experience! It was a great way to start my ASL education and I have continued to learn ever-since.

  • Anything discussed during the course of psychotherapy is held in strict confidence; additionally, it is my policy to safeguard your privacy outside the office setting. This means that you will not be acknowledged in any way unless you initiate contact yourself—whether that happens at the grocery store or anywhere else in the community.

There are, however, exclusions and limitations to confidentiality of which you should be aware. These include (1) statements you might make indicating an intent to harm yourself or others, (2) statements you might make indicating an intent to commit or a history of committing child or elder abuse and (3) information that would facilitate your medical care in a life-threatening emergency.

  • Initial/Evaluative sessions are $195 and continuing, individual therapy sessions are $160.

You may have insurance to help cover the cost of care.

Payment (whether co-pay, deductible, or private pay) is expected at the time of service. I accept cash, check, and Visa/MasterCard.

Unless specifically arranged for telehealth, telephone consultation are generally limited to appointment scheduling and are not intended for therapeutic purposes.

Additionally, there are options for reduced fees should you have financial need.

  • If you should need to cancel an appointment, please provide 24-hour notice. Messages regarding cancellations will be returned for confirmation. Appointments not canceled in advance are charged unless the reason is for medical necessity and/or severe inclement weather. You will be afforded the same courtesy by me and in-kind compensation will be made for appointments canceled without adequate notice, medical reason, or by the persistence of severe inclement weather.
